Martin Luther King, Jr. and Henry David Thoreau
In Boston and its environs King was walking in the backyard of one of his most important intellectual influences, Henry David Thoreau. He and "this courageous New Englander" had first crossed paths while he was in his teens at Morehouse College in Atlanta as the World War II was ending.
When I went to Morehouse as a freshman in 1944, my concern for racial and economic justice was already substantial.... To be continued.
